TIPS FOR FILMING YOUR SELF-TAPE
BASICS:
The format of the video should be in landscape (horizontal), not portrait (vertical).
Find a plain, clean background, like a blank wall.
The quality of the video should be at least in standard HD (1080p or 720p). You may shoot using higher quality settings, but note that anything above HD will make a larger file that will significantly add to the processing and upload time.
Natural lighting is best, but a ring light or home-made lighting set up also works great.
Try your best to have clear audio.
SLATE:
Include a slate at the top of your video. This is a short video introducing you and what you will be performing.
Include your name, your agency (if applicable), and your chosen pieces.
FRAMING:
Shoot in medium wide shot (see reference photos below).
Find a strong eyeline: find a place you can look just off or behind the camera. It is usually recommended to not look directly at the camera.
Use a tripod or something sturdy to hold your camera. Try not to have your camera be hand-held, as this can make the video shaky.
CLOTHING:
Stay away from distracting patterns or text.
A good rule of thumb is to stick with solid colors.
Don’t wear something that will blend in with the background.
