Viewpoints for Collective Creation
With Leslie Baker
This workshop explores collective creation as a collaborative approach to theatre-making. Participants will generate material together through guided prompts, improvisation, and discussion. The focus is on shared authorship, listening, and shaping a piece as an ensemble. Ideal for artists interested in process-driven, collaborative theatre-making. The process will be led through Anne Bogart’s 6-viewpoints system.

About the Facilitator
Leslie Baker (BFA, MA, MFA) has worked as a director, assistant director, acting and movement teacher, movement coach and performer in both theatre and performance art; working internationally since the mid-1990’s. She loves working in traditional arenas as well as site specific performance installations, exploring performance in theatrical contexts while simultaneously working with interventionist experiences.
Leslie’s specialty is the Six Viewpoints. She began her studying the Viewpoints in the late 1980’s with Mary Overlie and Wendell Beavers. She has continued with her practice since and engages with it as performer training, rehearsal process and as a supportive practice in devising works.
She has a 40-year history of devising work in both solo and group forms. These performances have been presented at the Baltimore Theatre Project, Espace Tangente, Studio 303’s Edgy Women, Summerworks in Toronto and Centaur Theatre’s WinterWorks Festival amongst others. Her creations have toured to various festivals in Europe and the United States. Leslie has been teaching the Six Viewpoints and a Physical Approach to Acting for over 30 years, having taught at the National Theatre School of Canada, Concordia University, Dawson College, University of Costa Rica, Studio 303, EOLIA Center (Barcelona) and Carver Center for Arts (Baltimore), amongst others.
Shape of the Workshop
Over the course of the workshop, we will dedicate time each session to the practice of the Viewpoints and Collective Creation. Each session will commence with physical engagement with the Viewpoints, and activities to cultivate group awareness and creation. Our focus during the first two sessions will be weighted towards the Viewpoints; waking up our awareness of Space, Time, Emotion, Motion, Shape and Story; with time committed to Collective Creation. During the last two sessions, we will continue our practice of the Viewpoints and dedicate more time to the act of devising.
