Roy Surette
Roy has finished his tenth season as Artistic Director for the Belfry Theatre in Victoria and is the incoming Artistic Director at the Centaur Theatre. As a director, Roy has directed several award-winning productions including Overruled for the Shaw Festival and the Canadian tour of Shirley Valentine.

VOICE-OVER: THE DEMO ENCORE
Facilitated by Carolyn-Fe Trinidad
9:00-5:00 PM. February 11th & 18th, 2008.
(Sessions are approximately 2hrs.)
On the 9 to 5 grind, Carolyn-Fe owns and operates a Human Resources firm for the High Tech Industry. After hours, she steps up to the microphone & fronts for her blues-jazz band, “DD Swank” (www.ddswank.com), under the pseudonym of Mama B. In between, she pursues acting opportunities in theatre & film. Her most recent business venture is the opening her theatre production company “Altera Vitae Productions Inc.” (www.alteravitae.com). Altera Vitae will be staging their first show in spring of 2008
at the Mainline Theatre.

As Montreal continues to be recognized as a major gateway for films coming to North America from Europe, demo tapes have become an essential tool for the actor who wishes to gain voice over experience and work. In collaboration with OSS Media Group and the Quebec Drama Federation, Altera Vitae Productions offers recording sessions including scripts to choose from, full editing with sound effects & a CD. Choice of scripts and schedules are available at QDF.

Brian Drader assists emerging and professional playwrights in tackling the
challenges of refining and defining the craft of theatrical storytelling.

Brian Drader
Brian Drader lives and works out of Montreal. As well as writing for stage, screen and radio, he is also an actor, having appeared in more than 70 professional productions in theatres across Canada. He has served as Associate Artistic Director for Prairie Theatre Exchange in Winnipeg, and is currently the Director of Playwriting at the National Theatre School of Canada. Published plays include The Norbals, Liar and Prok.

Audition Masterclass
Facilitated by Dean Patrick Flemming

Partcipants will see the audition process from the director’s perspective, while working through their own audition pieces. Topics to be covered include: selecting, rehearsing and staging a monologue and making a lasting impression.

Dean Patrick Fleming
Dean has worked as an actor, director, stage manager, acting coach, and voice talent in over one hundred theatre, film, and television productions. He has directed productions in many Montreal theatres as well as productions that have toured Eastern Canada. Dean is co-founder and co-artistic director of ASM Performing Arts, Montreal’s top private acting studio and has taught at both Concordia University and the National Theatre School. Currently Dean is Artistic Director of Geordie Productions.

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE

The Alexander movement technique widely used in theatre companies and training conservatories around the world, is considered fundamental work for the actor. An actor who understands and makes effective use of his instrument will be welcome in any ensemble.

Robert H. Schweitzer discovered the Alexander Technique through singing. After four years of private AT lessons in NYC, he moved to Montreal to train as an AT teacher in 2003. Robert teaches the Technique full-time in Montreal to performing artists and to people who suffer from chronic pain. CanSTAT certified.

THEATRE CRITICISM & FEATURE WRITING
Principles and practices of theatre criticism. These seminars will cover a wide range of issues in criticism, with a view of helping participants formulate and articulate a response to the theatrical event. Discussion will include practical tips on how to pitch your services as a free-lancer, and an introduction to the new media: web publishing.
Led by Marianne Ackerman, former Gazette theatre critic,
playwright and novelist, free-lance journalist.

DANCE CRITICISM & WRITING
Principles and practices of dance criticism. Participants will attend dance performances, write reviews and benefit from analysis of their work in a seminar situation. These sessions will demystify the critical approaches taken when considering dance, and help writers build tools for contextualizing and writing about the specifics of the art form.
Led by Philip Szporer, broadcaster, filmmaker, international lecturer, and columnist for Hour and The Dance Current.
